Milwaukee, Wisconsin is the home of BRATS and they will be at the Great Lakes Pet Expo on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at the Wisconsin Expo Center at State Fair Park.  Badger Rescue and Transport Services has been saving the lives of companion animals since 2008 but not in the way you might think.  BRATS’ founders saw the need throughout the State of Wisconsin to relocate animals that were sitting  in shelters and not being adopted.  12928313_1229410190426216_6163779082000292704_nThese animals were facing euthanasia while another shelter or animal rescue organization could place the same animal in no time at all.   If one shelter could place certain breeds why then couldn’t another?   BRATS figured out that demand for different breeds of dogs or types of animals was different in all communities throughout the state.  The next step was to get the groups communicating.  Once that was done BRATS identified the major need which was TRANSPORTATION.   Drivers were needed to take the companion animals from one shelter to another or to a rescue group.  In this way, the animals would find life.   BRATS started recruiting volunteer drivers and driving companion animals to safety.   From October 2008 through mid-December 2016, BRATS volunteers transported 18,454 animals from Wisconsin animal shelters and rescues! 9,795 of these animals were transported from MADACC (Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission). BRATS transports dogs, birds, reptiles, bunnies, chickens, pigs and anything else that ends up in a Wisconsin shelter.   BRATS does more than transport animals.  Drivers also transport excess food between shelters and provides ambulance services that transports sick or injured animals almost immediately from Wisconsin shelters so they can be treated in medical facilities.   There is lot more to BRATS!  Stop by their booth in Hall A near Cat Alley at the Great Lakes Pet Expo on Saturday, February 4, 2017 and learn more about this life saving work!   BRATS is THE group that quietly makes a huge impact on the lives of Wisconsin shelter animals.  Learn more about BRATS at www.bratstransport.org

The website for BRATS (www.bratstransport.org) does not work. Any ideas how to look them up?

      Hi Susan,
BRATS is no longer doing transports so it may be the reason the site is down. I know that some of the drivers are now driving for MADACC. Thanks!
